A market has been held in Romsey for over 400 years, and it remains a fixture of the town centre today, held in the Corn Market and Market Place at the heart of the town.
Market Days and Times
Romsey market runs on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from around 8.30am to about 2.30pm. Stalls fill the Corn Market and the surrounding Market Place, selling fresh produce, food, household goods, and more. The Saturday market is the busiest, coinciding with the town's main shopping day.
Over 400 Years of History
The right to hold a market in Romsey was granted under a royal charter of 1607, and the rights are historically associated with the Broadlands Estate as Lord of the Manor. In 2019, Romsey Town Council announced a new long-term agreement to secure the future of the market, operated jointly with Bradbeers, the town's long-established department store.

The market sits at the centre of Romsey's compact shopping area, surrounded by The Hundred, Bell Street, and Market Place, with independent shops, cafés, and pubs within a few steps. The White Horse Hotel & Brasserie, a former coaching inn, overlooks the Corn Market. It is an easy town to combine a market visit with a coffee, lunch, or a walk to Romsey Abbey nearby.
